OK, I have been using my friend clubs but I'm thinking about buying my own clubs. I just started playing so I'm wondering should I spend a lot of money. I am the type of person that take up different activities and then start something new. Can you guys give me some advice on the best brand of clubs to buy for a beginner?

I bought a Hippo beginner set when I first started. For $200, I got a driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 3-9 irons, pitching wedge, putter and a stand bag. There are other companies that are inexpensive and pretty decent as well, like Golden Bear and Wilson.

You can also go the used route. You may be able to get a better brand name for the same $200, the trade off being that you are getting used clubs.

The key is to find something that is inexpensive (especially if you aren't likely to keep playing) and and feels comfortable when you swing it. Most golf stores (Golfsmith, Edwin Watts, PGA Superstore) have demo areas that will allow you to test clubs before you buy them.

Usually any of the "pros" at golf shops will direct you to a good, yet cost effective, set of beginner clubs.

My first set was a set of Spaldings. 1 3 5 wood and 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 iron, putter, and pitching wedge. No Sand wedge.

It's best to look for a complete set, that will end up saving you money, I beleive.

Yeah, I ended up buying a generic brand because I didn't know how long I would be playing. I'm still in that testing stage so I haven't bought anymore clubs.

I see most of the previous posts were about clubs, but what type of golf apparel do most of you play in. I use to play in anything, but then when I wanted to develop an identity for myself, I wanted to wear a certain brand more often than not. Everyone was wearing Nike and Adidas, but I wanted to set myself apart. I found a new company called U9 Golf, and they have apparel designed exclusively for the single digit handicap golfer. I really love their shirts and hats and would recommend them to any golfer that fits that status!

I just bought two sets of irons, a 5 wood, 2 hybrids, a bag, and some accessories from gigagolf.com (already had a driver). These are Callaway X-22 clones.

They have a great customer service guy who custom fits your clubs over the phone based on your height and wrist to floor length, etc. I'll let you know how they work out.

Oh, total cost was just over $400 for everything.

Hi there.
I have a problem you can help me with. So it's our anniversary in two weeks. And I want to give some good golf stuff to my husband.
So can you recommend me something?
