Hey everybody, New guy from Canada here (Toronto)...

I was just wondering if anybody has ever broken one of their golf clubs? First time out to a range this year, I hit a perfect 3 iron, problem was the head went as far as the ball... After looking at the club, the head sheared at the plastic connector between the head and the shaft... The clubs were out in the garage this year and I thought that maybe the cold made the plastic brittle...

Luckily the range wasn't too full and nobody noticed :p

I personally have not broken one, but I have witnessed the breaking of one.

A buddy of mine and I were at the driving range and he was hitting his King Cobra Driver. It was older and had been well used. Apparently the shaft was weak near the club head. He hit one of his drives and the club head flew with the ball about 30 yards into the range. IT was pretty sweet.

My brother broke his Big Burtha driver on a clean drive on a course last year. I guess this sort of thing runs in the family :)

LOL, no I haven't broken a club. Bu, I watch my friend break hers when she was swinging at the ball and she cleared the field. She bought the clubs second hand and that could have been part of the problem.

I managed to break a Ping 3 wood. Nice shot down the fairway but the head went about 50 yards as well. Problem was that Ping had a pattented plastic piece that I needed to buy to fix it. After 7 bucks for the small piece, I was able to epoxy an new shaft into the head.

LOL! I guess things worked out for you in the end. Was anyone else on the course when you made the shot?

LOL, I got one for you. My step-dad's 9 iron broke like that but flew backwards freakishly. Conked the half-brother on the head! I loved it!!!!! Oh yea, I loved it cause he was the evil half-brother. The first time I believed in karma!

I've broken two, both at the range.

A driver (that wasn't mine), where the head flew about 25 yards into the range.

Not too long after, I broke my 5 iron. I hit the fall, followed through and then the shaft just bent in two and broke off. It was a cheap club anyhow... :)

Really, I can't believe that happen. How was your brother? Did he have to visit the doctor?

LOL! Did you have to replace the borrow driver? You seem to have bad luck with drivers.

UPDATE: I busted my driver in a tournament earlier this year. But a 1.5 inch crack in the bottom of it. On the plus side, I was able to get a new driver (Callaway X460).

One in frustration and one with constant useage.
The constant useage was my Taylormade Burner driver which developed a crack in the face but I did not notice until it split completely on a drive and sent my ball sideways about 100yards.
In frustration was my beloved money club; my 60 degree wedge. I scuffed a chip from the fringe of the green and put it into a bunker. I was so disgusted I hit the ground with it and the head flew off. It was my saviour club and I had to play the rest of the round (14 holes) without it.
The good thing; since that day I have never gotten frustrated or abused my clubs in any way. It taught me a great lesson (though cost me $100 to replace).

Sometimes in the summer, when the ground gets really dry around here (indiana), it becomes like concrete. I miss hit a fair wood 3-wood one time and broke the shaft. I think i must have been damaged before I hit my shot, but I caught too much earth with it. The head actually went farther than the ball :o
