The one time I played this course I had a horrible experience. I played on a Sunday afternoon. The course was in terrible shape (water didn't drain, fairways overgrown, etc.) and the pace of play was horrible. We had a tee time for 1PM and were not able to tee off until 2PM. This was due mainly to the fact that they allowed walkers, which is absolutely ridiculous on the weekends. Bottom line, after playing this course I had to rename it from Chastain to Crapstain. Terrible course and I will probably never play it again.

I played their yesterday (7/27/06) and it was CRAP. We did start on time but the fairways and "temporary" greens were terrible. The true greens were under repair, hence the temporary greens. It was only $15 for 18 holes which I guess is ok for the condition of the course. I don't think I'll be going back, but I might give it another shot when the true greens are reinstated.

Wow, sound like you had a horrible time. Thanks for the information, guys. The next time I'm in Atlanta I will know to avoid this course.

Chastain was a "horse track" for quite a long time. However, all the greens were ripped up, new drainage installed and reseeded (late 2006 through 2007). Ditto for the sandtraps and all the fairways had drainage added. The pace of play has been reduced to 4 1/2 hrs on weekend (on average). I've played in as short as 3 hours on weekdays - that would be only for an early start. Lastly, should the poster failed to mention anything about the history of the course. Designed by Bobby Jones, and was used as the qualifying course for years by the US amatuer open. So... not a pristine course by any means, but great layout and one of the better City owned courses in the country when price, layout and general conditions are all looked at equally. Currently around $40 weekend rate. Not trying to make the course more crowded, but certainly a great course for the category it falls under. Absolutely not country club conditions or even close, but a good challenge for the money.
